\n…He had one or two friends in every social group but was never considered \u201cpopular\u201d. This happened because he was involved in everything. He: was the third string running back, he was in band, helped the drama club build sets, then helped out with the sound and lights, was on the chess team, took a lot of art classes, and seemed to help out anyone who needed it. These were the reasons he was invited to the sex party by mistake and why he was picked on during the party.
\n\tJulie braced herself for rude behavior when he stepped up to her.
\n\tSomewhat nervous but pretending to have confidence he said, \u201cJulie.\u201d
\n\tShe stopped. Kids walked around them.
\n\tRalph made a face.
\n\tBecause of Ralph\u2019s body language she was nice, \u201cYeah.\u201d
\n\t\u201cUh..\u201d
\n\tHe paused.
\n\tShe made a face. She was expecting him to suggest a time when they should have sex…

\n…Julie managed to avoid breaking down in tears…

\n…She headed to the stairs that went down to the girls locker room. This is when she spotted Brenda and Hannah waiting by the steps.
\n\tHannah said, \u201cJulie.\u201d
\n\t\u201cI have to get to practice.\u201d
\n\tHannah pushed up her glasses, \u201cIt will only take a second.\u201d
\n\t\u201cOkay.\u201d
\n\tJulie stopped and waited.
\n\tHannah looked at Brenda, \u201cGive it to her.\u201d
\n\tBrenda sheepishly opened a small pocket of her backpack and took out a homemade pin of a Siberian Husky face and volleyball earrings.
\n\t\u201cWhat\u2019s this?\u201d
\n\tHannah tapped Brenda.
\n\tBrenda answered sheepishly, \u201cFor being a friend.\u201d
\n\tBrenda was surprised when Julie hugged her. They brought one another comfort.
\n\tJulie pulled away, \u201cI have to get to practice.\u201d
\n\tThe two girls could see Julie was tearing.
\n\tHannah pushed up her glasses and said, \u201cThey need you.\u201d…

\n…She casually pushed her cart up to the counter pretending she never noticed him.
\n\tThe ladies in the deli department were watching this develop. In spite of the rumors Ashleigh was Bisexual, the more people were getting to know her, the less people were believing this. One of the ladies in the deli department heard Nicole tell a mutual friend of theirs Ashleigh liked Marcus. There were rumors Ashleigh was showing up at the early church service. Everyone who worked at Renewed Mastery could confirm Ashleigh was not an early riser.
\n\tAshleigh checked Marcus out. She was attracted to him and wanted him to ask her out. He was five ten, his sunglasses were hanging from his right front pocket, she liked his thin lips, his squared chin, his brown eyes, light brown hair with a part in middle, and liked the fact he was clean shaven.
\n\tShe was aware, his Fiancee’ broke up with him because he refused to quit as a police officer. A woman at their church confided to Ashleigh, another reason she broke it off, was his refusal to have sex before being married. This impressed Ashleigh a great deal. It was one thing for a woman to force a guy to wait but it was completely different to have a guy force a woman to wait. When she took care of a stack of tickets at the Eastbank Police station she felt Marcus liked her. She made sure to take care of all these tickets at a time when he would be at the police station. She later thanked Officer Janet Foster for helping her know when this would be. She was counting on Janet’s promise she would encourage him to ask her out.
